Mount Miguel is 0-10 against Helix since April of 2016 but things could change on Tuesday. The Matadors will look to defend their home field against the Scotties at 4:00 p.m. Mount Miguel will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Mount Miguel turned things around against El Cajon Valley on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Braves with a sharp 19-2 win. The game marked the Matadors' most dominant victory of the season.
Gabriella Sanchez made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits. Sanchez was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Ysabella Enriquez was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. What's more, she posted two hits, the most she's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Lucy Talbot, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with five stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Mount Miguel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .829. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Helix put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Thursday. They never let Grossmont get on the board and left with a 3-0 win. The Scotties haven't had any issues with the Foothillers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
The result came thanks to Lea Moya's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Helix saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Amara Okafor, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Helix's win bumped their record up to 17-1. As for Mount Miguel, their victory bumped their record up to 7-13.
Mount Miguel suffered a grim 18-2 defeat to Helix in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. Can the Matadors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
