The Hanover Park Hornets will head out on the road to face off against the Verona Hillbillies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Friday, Hanover Park came up short against Pequannock and fell 31-24. It was the first time this season that Hanover Park let down their fans at home.
Despite the loss, Hanover Park had strong showings from Joey Borrello, who rushed for 33 yards and a touchdown, and Kevin Loparnos, who picked up 82 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Verona's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They and Glen Ridge were almost perfectly matched up, but Verona suffered an agonizing 8-7 defeat.
Despite the loss, Verona had strong showings from Zach Garmont, who picked up 82 receiving yards and a touchdown, and Bodie Maisano, who rushed for 107 yards on only 14 carries.
Hanover Park's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. Verona has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.
Hanover Park strolled past Verona in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 by a score of 21-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hanover Park since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
