On Saturday, The Covenant Eagles faced the Greenbrier Christian Academy Gators in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Covenant came out on top against Greenbrier Christian Academy by a score of 40-29. The victory was familiar territory for Covenant who now have five in a row.
Jonathan Newton got back to being his usual excellent self, as he rushed for 433 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 19.7 yards per carry. Newton's longest rush was for an incredible 73 yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Covenant's defense and their four sacks. Leading the way was Alyx Mcwilliams and his 3.5 sacks.
Greenbrier Christian Academy's loss came despite strong showings from DJ Caban and Connor Isenberg. Caban gained 120 total yards and two touchdowns, while Isenberg rushed for 45 yards and a touchdown.
Covenant's victory was their third straight on the road , which pushed their record up to 7-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 43.0 points per game. As for Greenbrier Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.
Covenant will head out on the road to face off against Christchurch School at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Virginia (Christchurch School is ranked third, while Covenant is ranked fourth). Greenbrier Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
