The Ridgefield Spudders will face off against the Olympic Trojans at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Friday, Ridgefield got the win against Hockinson by a conclusive 21-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spudders.
Gracie Olmos was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, earning two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tava Whitlow, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Charlie Harris was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Ridgefield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .674. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hockinson only posted an OBP of .250.
Meanwhile, while Olympic put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Sequim. The Trojans put the hurt on the Wolves with a sharp 12-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Wolves: they've now won five in a row.
Beya Richmond was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Haas, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
Olympic's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Ridgefield, their victory bumped their record up to 14-3.
Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Ridgefield has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .517. However, it's not like Olympic struggles in that department as they've averaged .498. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ridgefield beat Olympic 5-0 when the teams last played back in March. Do the Spudders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
