Tupelo extended their winning streak to six on Thursday, bumping them up to 10-1. They blew past the DeSoto Central Jaguars 42-19. The result was nothing new for the Golden Wave, who have now won seven contests by 21 points or more so far this season.
Tupelo's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Braylen Williams, who rushed for 151 yards and a pair of TDs on only ten carries. Williams is also crushing it when it comes to rushing touchdowns: he's punched in at least two every time he's taken the field this season. Jaeden Hill also helped out as he racked up 160 rushing yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Tupelo was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 421 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.
As for DeSoto Central, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-4. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 27th, while Tupelo is ranked second).
Despite the loss, DeSoto Central still got an impressive performance from Eric Perry, who rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Perry's longest rush was for an impressive 57 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.
Tupelo and DeSoto Central are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Golden Wave will be playing at home against Starkville at 7:00 p.m. on the 14th.
