If the Piedmont Classical Bobcats were feeling good off their 71-40 takedown of the College Prep & Leadership Academy Royals last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Piedmont Classical took a 49-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bethany. If Piedmont Classical hoped to take revenge for the 55-53 loss against they when the teams met on Tuesday, then they were left disappointed.
Several Bobcats players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ge'Kayla Goins, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and two steals. That was a full 44.4% of Piedmont Classical's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Keniya Waring was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with 12 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Piedmont Classical smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bethany only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
It was another big night for Haley Ricketts, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals for Bethany. Ricketts hasn't dropped below two steals for 12 straight games. Another player making a difference was Cheyenne Hollifield, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds.
Piedmont Classical's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Bethany, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-13.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Piedmont Classical will challenge Leadership Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Bethany on the road again on Friday and play against College Prep & Leadership Academy at 6:30 p.m. on January 26th.
