The L.E.A.D. Academy Lions had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 58-46 win over Gulf Pointe Latin on Thursday. The win was just what L.E.A.D. Academy needed coming off of a 62-36 loss in their prior contest.
L.E.A.D. Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Donovan Dean, who scored 17 points. Kendrick Williamson was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds.
Despite the loss, Gulf Pointe Latin saw an underclassman step up: John DeFore scored 15 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points DeFore has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Micah Crumpler, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Even though they lost, Gulf Pointe Latin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
L.E.A.D. Academy's victory bumped their record up to 3-12. As for Gulf Pointe Latin, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.
L.E.A.D. Academy will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Munroe at 6:30 p.m. Munroe presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than L.E.A.D. Academy in Florida (Munroe is ranked 224th, while L.E.A.D. Academy is ranked 772nd). Gulf Pointe Latin won't have much time to rest: their next game is against South Baldwin Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on January 12th.
