Hanover Central is 10-0 against North Newton since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Hanover Central Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the North Newton Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Hanover Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Tuesday.
Hanover Central took care of business in their home opener (and then some). They claimed a resounding 75-45 win over Westville at home. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 11 to 3 on the offensive boards, as Hanover Central did.
Hanover Central got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Brad Rohde out in front who scored 25 points along with 9 rebounds. Max Wiancek was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with 9 rebounds.
Meanwhile, North Newton lost to Hebron on the road by a decisive 65-47 margin on Friday. While losing is never fun, North Newton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 220th, while Hebron is ranked 50th).
Despite their loss, North Newton saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Evan Gagnon, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 13 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Gagnon scored a full 53.2% of North Newton's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Patrick Barry, who scored 11 points along with 6 rebounds.
Hanover Central's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for North Newton, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
Everything went Hanover Central's way against North Newton in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 as Hanover Central made off with a 53-30 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was North Newton's Michael Levy, who scored 17 points.
