Canyon View is on a 17-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Verrado is on a seven-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Jaguars will host the Vipers at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Canyon View turned things around against Campo Verde on Wednesday. They never let the Coyotes get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Jaguars considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Emily Davis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 18 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Makenzie Jones was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Brooke Downs, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Canyon View was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They are a perfect 15-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Verrado got the win against Youngker on Monday by a conclusive 16-1. The win continues a trend for the Vipers in their matchups with the Roughriders: they've now won six in a row.
Nevaeh Romero was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Jaiden Stell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Canyon View's victory bumped their record up to 18-4. As for Verrado, their win bumped their record up to 17-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Canyon View has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Verrado struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Canyon View took their victory against Verrado in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Jaguars repeat their success, or do the Vipers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
