Softball Game Preview: Colton Vikings vs. Western Christian Pioneers

Colton is 7-2 against Western Christian since May of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Vikings are taking a road trip to take on the Pioneers at 4:30 p.m. Colton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.

Colton took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They came out on top against Country Christian by a score of 7-2. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Vikings as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Clara Weinberger looked comfortable as she tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Katelynn Kimsey, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Payton Herbison also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Western Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They came up short against St. Paul, falling 15-0.

Western Christian's loss dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Colton, their win bumped their record up to 4-8-1.

Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Colton has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .537. However, it's not like Western Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .469. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Colton took their victory against Western Christian when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 18-3 score. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pioneers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
