The Oak Grove Classical Academy Owls will venture away from home to take on the Hozho Academy Wolves at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Oak Grove Classical Academy has given up an average of 9.5 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Oak Grove Classical Academy came up short against Rehoboth Christian on Tuesday, falling 20-13.
Brody Prochnow and Ben Fernandez stepped up to the plate in a big way. Prochnow went 1-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Fernandez got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that Prochnow has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of James Schroeder, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Hozho Academy had already won ten in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it 11 on Friday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Lynx.
Keihin Kirk and Adrian Ternes made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Kirk struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Ternes pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Kirk went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Ternes got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Philip Elkins, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
Hozho Academy pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Oak Grove Classical Academy, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
Both Oak Grove Classical Academy and Hozho Academy just can't seem to miss. The Owls have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Hozho Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.5 hits.
