The Crowley County Chargers waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top against Las Animas by a score of 34-26. For Crowley County, this counts as revenge for the 36-34 defeat Las Animas walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January.
Crowley County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Nakayla Aguilar out in front who scored 15 points along with three steals and two blocks. It was the first time this season that Aguilar scored 15 or more points. Alexis Rusher was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with ten rebounds and three steals.
Despite the defeat, Las Animas saw an underclassman step up: Ava LaBarge scored eight points along with six assists and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jadann Eck, who scored eight points.
Crowley County's victory bumped their record up to 11-6. As for Las Animas, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-3.
Crowley County will head out on the road to challenge Ellicott at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Crowley County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Friday. As for Las Animas, they and Cheraw will face off at 4:30 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Las Animas is coming into the match with nine straight losses at home, meaning Cheraw will have to defend against a squad hungry for a win.
