Castle View gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past the Mullen Mustangs 5-4. That's more bragging rights for the Sabercats, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.
Castle View got a great performance from Ethan Scott as he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). That's the fewest earned runs Scott has allowed since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Derek Gordon was incredible, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Samuel Harry, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Castle View lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mullen didn't launched any home runs.
Looking ahead, Castle View will welcome Valor Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mullen, they are taking a road trip to take on Broomfield at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
