The Wachusett Regional Mountaineers will venture away from home to square off against the Grafton Gators at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wachusett Regional's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Grafton's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Wachusett Regional turned things around against Westborough on Monday. They walked away with a 7-2 win over the Rangers. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 17, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Brady Hughes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Caden Lane, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Brendan Mariani also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Grafton waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Beavers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Gators have posted since March 31st.
Grafton also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Chris Kiesiner gave up only one earned run on two hits and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, Grafton's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Haylan Oberg, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
Grafton pushed their record up to 9-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Wachusett Regional, their victory bumped their record up to 7-8.
Everything went Wachusett Regional's way against Grafton in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Wachusett Regional made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mountaineers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
