Basketball Recap: Summit Charter Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Chance Wilson and August Stewart-Payne

Summit Charter lost against Nantahala back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The matchup between the Summit Charter Bears and the Nantahala Hawks didn't end well, with the Summit Charter Bears falling 78-59.

Summit Charter's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of August Stewart-Payne, who went 7 for 14 on his way to 20 points, and Chance Wilson, who went 7 of 16 on his way to 19 points. The game was Wilson's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Frankie Marquina, who posted six points.

Leading Nantahala to victory were Landon Neal and Cole McCoy. Neal went 12 of 23 en route to 32 points and seven rebounds, while McCoy almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine assists. Those nine assists gave McCoy a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chase McMahan, who had six points and 18 rebounds.

Summit Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Nantahala, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.

Summit Charter didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 76-47 loss against Swain County on the 8th. As for Nantahala, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 90-52 defeat against Murphy on the 9th.
