Ella Wagner made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and one triple. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kimberly Meneses, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Birmingham, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over El Camino Real on Friday.
Annabella Venegas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jazmine Olmos, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalilah Gormley, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Birmingham kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Birmingham pushed their record up to 11-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Taft, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-11.
Taft's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Toreadors have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Birmingham, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Taft continue to outrun the ball?
Taft suffered a grim 21-0 defeat to Birmingham in their previous matchup back in April. Will the Toreadors have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
