In what's become a running theme this season, the Fort Calhoun Pioneers gave their fans yet another huge win on Thursday. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 70-19 victory over Mead. The win was nothing new for Fort Calhoun as they're now sitting on five straight.
Fort Calhoun was led to victory by Raeann Massey and Ansley Elofson. Massey scored 18 points along with five steals, while Elofson dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Elofson has scored all season. Bria Bench was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Mead struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Fort Calhoun racked up 21 assists.
Fort Calhoun's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-4. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.4 points per game. As for Mead, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-13.
Fort Calhoun will stay at home for another game and welcome Douglas County West at 6:00 p.m. on January 22nd. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Grace Holm and Bench. As for Mead, they will head out on the road to take on David City at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. David City presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Mead in Nebraska (David City is ranked 56th, while Mead is ranked 273rd).
