The Oakman Wildcats had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 16.4 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Winfield 49-46. For Oakman, this counts as revenge for the 64-60 loss Winfield walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2023.
Oakman's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Trenton Warren led the charge by scoring 16 points along with nine rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Warren has scored at least 25% of Oakman's points. Another player making a difference was Rick Johnson, who scored 16 points along with five blocks and three steals.
Oakman pushed their record up to 9-1 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Winfield, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oakman will take on Carbon Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Carbon Hill's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matches. As for Winfield, they will head out on the road to face off against Gordo at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gordo will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 307th, while Winfield is ranked 151st).
