Even though the FAMU DRS Baby Rattlers scored an imposing 58 points on Tuesday, the Taylor County Bulldogs still came out on top. Taylor County took down the Baby Rattlers 77-58. Taylor County pushed the score to 59-37 by the end of the third, a deficit the Baby Rattlers cut but never quite recovered from.
Taylor County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jakari Jackson led the charge by dropping a double-double on 17 points and 15 assists. Jackson hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Trayce Abercrombie, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Despite the loss, FAMU DRS saw an underclassman step up: Eric Turral scored 21 points along with four steals. Turral hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. Alphonza Gammons was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, FAMU DRS smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. This was only their 11th loss (out of 13 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Taylor County now has a winning record of 9-8. As for FAMU DRS, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-17.
Taylor County will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th. Godby presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Bulldogs in Florida (the Cougars are ranked 201st, while the Bulldogs are ranked 452nd). As for FAMU DRS, they and the War Eagles will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 25th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Wakulla focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Tuesday.
