Basketball Recap: Weddington Makes It 16 in a Row on the Road

Weddington extended their road winning streak to 16 games dating back to last season thanks to a huge performance from Kj Younger. The Weddington Warriors snuck past the Millbrook Wildcats with a 64-59 victory on Saturday thanks in part to Younger, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and 11 rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last 13 games he's played dating back to last season.

Despite the defeat, Millbrook had strong showings from Joshua Bowen, who went 6 of 15 on his way to 18 points and five assists, and Josh Conti, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. Those 12 boards gave Conti a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Dean, who posted 11 points.

Weddington has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.7 points per game. As for Millbrook, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-4.

Weddington will take on Covenant Day in a holiday battle at at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Weddington knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matches -- so hopefully Covenant Day likes a good challenge. As for Millbrook, they will venture away from home to face off against Broughton at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Broughton will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Millbrook surely won't give up without a fight.
