The Woodgrove Wolverines will head out to take on the Heritage Pride at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Woodgrove's pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so Heritage's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Woodgrove took a loss when they played away from home last Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They walked away with a 6-1 win over Herndon.
Vincenzo Cusat made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Cusat was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, Patrick Lyons was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Ryder Fiala was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Heritage came out on top against Tuscarora on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fifth inning. The Pride put the hurt on the Huskies with a sharp 8-2 victory. The game was the first time the Pride have beaten the Huskies on their field since May 25, 2022.
Aaron Van Tuyle spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up ten Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Erick Flores, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cooper Miskelly, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
Woodgrove's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Heritage, their record now sits at 6-10.
Woodgrove came out on top in a nail-biter against Heritage in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 16-15. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
