Baseball Recap: Amsterdam Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Amsterdam ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They skirted past the Schuylerville Horses 6-5. This was a revenge game for the Rams: when they faced off against the Horses on Monday, they had to take a 9-6 loss.

Yojanse Rodriguez and John Miller were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Rodriguez pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Miller struck out six batters over 6.1 innings while giving up five earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Rodriguez went 1-for-4 with three RBI, while Miller went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Miller has become a key player for Amsterdam: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-8 otherwise.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maddix Cichy, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Amsterdam has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Schuylerville, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Looking ahead, Amsterdam will venture away from home to take on Albany at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Rams' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Schuylerville, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 3-1 victory against Hudson Falls on the 1st.
