Pusch Ridge Christian Academy has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Sabino Sabercats at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Pusch Ridge Christian Academy can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent contest on Tuesday. They breezed by Safford at home to the tune of 60-27. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Pusch Ridge Christian Academy has posted since November 28, 2023.
Pusch Ridge Christian Academy can attribute much of their success to Nicole NJoroge, who scored ten points along with six steals, and Hannah Johnson, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals. NJoroge is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Alexis Ferbeyre was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Sabino entered their tilt with Empire with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Sabino blew past Empire, posting a 73-21 victory at home. Given Sabino's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 137th, while Empire is ranked 287th), the result on Wednesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sabino's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marie Gomez-Munoz, who scored 28 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gomez-Munoz has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Melia Graham, who scored 13 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds.
Pusch Ridge Christian Academy pushed their record up to 13-7 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.5 points per game. As for Sabino, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-11 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Pusch Ridge Christian Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 35 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Sabino struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
