The Maine South Hawks will face off against the Highland Park Giants at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Maine South is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
While Maine South's victory against Whitney Young wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Hawks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Dolphins on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Dolphins: they've now won four in a row.
The team relied heavily on Riley Story, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Aribella Spandiary also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Highland Park was able to grind out a solid win over Niles West on Saturday, taking the game 5-2.
Lily Freedman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Brooklyn Swick was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Marin Killeen, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Highland Park's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Maine South, their win bumped their record up to 4-7.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Maine South has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. However, it's not like Highland Park struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Maine South took their victory against Highland Park in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Giants have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
