Cardinal Gibbons is on a four-game streak of home losses (dating back to last season), Heritage a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. The Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders will take on the Heritage Huskies at 1:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Wednesday, Cardinal Gibbons opened the new year with a less-than-successful 49-38 defeat to Chapel Hill. While losing is never fun, Cardinal Gibbons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 209th, while Chapel Hill is ranked 46th).
Kathryn Vanburik put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that she scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Chappell, who scored four points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Heritage came up short against Broughton on Friday and fell 42-32. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Heritage in their matchups with Broughton: they've now lost three in a row.
Cardinal Gibbons now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Heritage, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Cardinal Gibbons against Heritage in their previous matchup back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 62-31 victory. With Cardinal Gibbons ahead 35-13 at the half, the match was all but over already.
