The Charlotte Country Day School Buccaneers will challenge the Cannon Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Charlotte Country Day School is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Charlotte Country Day School and Wesleyan Christian Academy meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Buccaneers came up short against the Trojans, falling 17-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Buccaneers have suffered since April 1st.
Dominic Ranalli was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits.
At the plate, Nolan Rutherford made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Cannon hadn't done well against Providence Day recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Cougars walked away with a 4-1 win over the Chargers. The victory was some much needed relief for the Cougars as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Victor Lopez and Avi Pandey dominated on the mound. Lopez pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit, while Pandey tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. What's more, Lopez posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
On the hitting side, Cannon's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Bennett Miller, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Mason Mierzwa was another, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Charlotte Country Day School's loss dropped their record down to 5-18. As for Cannon, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 6-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Charlotte Country Day School has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cannon struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Charlotte Country Day School might still be hurting after the 7-1 defeat they got from Cannon when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Buccaneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
