Sexton hasn't had much luck against Charlotte recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Big Reds will venture away from home to square off against the Orioles at 4:00 p.m. Sexton has given up an average of 16.4 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Sexton is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 22nd straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They came up short against Eastern, falling 19-3.
Charlotte came out on top against Montabella on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run sixth inning. The Orioles were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Mustangs. The Orioles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by seven runs or more this season.
Mason Croley made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Croley was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, Ty Bowzer and Aiden Buhs did most of the damage at the plate: Bowzer went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Buhs went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Jack Davy also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Charlotte was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .457. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Charlotte pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Sexton, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
Sexton suffered a grim 33-1 defeat to Charlotte in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Big Reds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
