Hopewell-Loudon is a perfect 7-0 against Woodmore since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Chieftains will head out on the road to take on the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. Hopewell-Loudon's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Woodmore's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Saturday, Hopewell-Loudon didn't have quite enough to beat Mohawk and fell 2-1. The contest marked the Chieftains' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Hopewell-Loudon got a good showing from Asher Smith, who tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest earned runs Smith has allowed since back in April.
On the hitting side, Hopewell-Loudon saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brody Brickman, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Woodmore came up short against Gibsonburg on Friday and fell 10-6. The Wildcats have struggled against the Golden Bears recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Calvin Lipstraw put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Collin Perkins was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Michael Seeger was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Woodmore's record now sits at 15-8. As for Hopewell-Loudon, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hopewell-Loudon has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Woodmore struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Hopewell-Loudon skirted past Woodmore 4-2 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Chieftains since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
