The Covington Buccs waltzed into their game on Saturday with four straight wins but they left with five. They walked away with a 45-35 victory over Riverside. Given Covington's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 159th, while the Pirates are ranked 549th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Riverside's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emma Saylor, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. It was the first time this season that Saylor posted two or more blocks. Avery Perk was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds.
Covington pushed their record up to 17-4 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Riverside, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-13.
Covington will be playing at home against the Vikings at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Miami East will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line. As for Riverside, they will head out on the road to face off against the Bulldogs at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Milton-Union focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Saturday.
