Baseball Recap: Lapel Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Lapel came tearing into Friday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Alexandria-Monroe Tigers 10-2. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by seven runs or more this season.

Darl Gustin made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted over his last three games. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, Camden Novak and Eli Suchocki did most of the damage at the plate: Novak went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs, while Suchocki got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Novak has posted over his last 11 matchups. Kai Newman was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Lapel kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alexandria-Monroe only managed five hits.

Lapel pushed their record up to 17-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Alexandria-Monroe, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-9 record this season.

Lapel and Alexandria-Monroe should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Bulldogs will face off against Mississinewa at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank advantage (29 vs. 179). Meanwhile, Alexandria-Monroe (ranked 149th) will meet Wes-Del (ranked 306th) at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
