Basketball Game Preview: Ocean Lakes Dolphins vs. Kempsville Chiefs

Ocean Lakes is 2-8 against Kempsville since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Ocean Lakes Dolphins will square off against the Kempsville Chiefs at 7:00 p.m. Kempsville took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Ocean Lakes, who comes in off a win.

Ocean Lakes will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up 24 points back in December of 2024, then bounced right back against Cox two weeks ago. Ocean Lakes enjoyed a cozy 57-38 win over Cox.

Ocean Lakes' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Samara Williams led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and 18 boards. Williams has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 19 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jasmyn Miller, who posted 27 points.

Meanwhile, Kempsville was beaten by South Mecklenburg 61-18 on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Chiefs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 185th in Virginia, while the Sabres are ranked 42nd in North Carolina).

Kempsville's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Ocean Lakes, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.

Ocean Lakes came up short against Kempsville when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 46-38. Can Ocean Lakes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
