The Centennial Eagles entered their tilt with the Vero Beach Indians with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Centennial took their game at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 75-48 victory over Vero Beach. Given Centennial's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 59th, while Vero Beach is ranked 324th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Centennial was led to victory by Felix Buroz and Antawn SmithJR. Buroz scored 14 points along with 5 assists, while SmithJR scored 18 points. Jayson Smith was another key contributor, scoring 9 points.
Despite the loss, Vero Beach still got an impressive performance from Jaylen Shelly, who scored 17 points. The contest was Shelly's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Martinez, who scored 11 points.
Even though they lost, Vero Beach were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Centennial only racked up 21.
Centennial's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Vero Beach, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Centennial will take on Suncoast at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Vero Beach, they will be playing at home against Heritage at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
