Azle is 0-1 against The Colony since October of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Azle Hornets will be playing at home against The Colony Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Azle will be strutting in after a victory while The Colony will be coming in after a defeat.
Azle's four-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 34-33 win over Saginaw. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Azle's seven-point performance the matchup before.
Azle can attribute much of their success to Hagen Hughes, who rushed for 162 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Canaan Kaznowski, who rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries.
Meanwhile, The Colony came up short against Northwest on Friday and fell 37-27. While losing is never fun, The Colony can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 226th, while Northwest is ranked 43rd).
The Colony's defeat came about despite a quality game from Carson Cox, who rushed for 113 yards while picking up 7.1 yards per carry, and also threw for 154 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 passes.
Azle's win on Friday bumped their record up to 2-5. As for The Colony, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
Azle suffered a grim 58-34 defeat to The Colony when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Azle, Kamden Wesley (who rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.5 yards per carry, and also picked up 75 receiving yards) won't be suiting up this time.
