After flying high against the Gaithersburg Trojans last Friday, the Quince Orchard Cougars came back down to earth. Quince Orchard had to suffer through a rough 71-35 loss at the hands of Seneca Valley. Quince Orchard has not had much luck with Seneca Valley recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Quince Orchard lost on Monday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Evelyn Steele, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and five blocks. Steele hasn't dropped below two blocks for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Richardson, who scored four points along with six rebounds.
Seneca Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mina Hashemzadeh, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Hashemzadeh continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Brielle Watson, who scored eight points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Seneca Valley used a slightly different lineup for their bout with Quince Orchard. And. Teagan Phillips made the most of the opportunity, scoring seven points along with two steals. A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.
Quince Orchard now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Seneca Valley, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.
Quince Orchard will be playing at home against Clarksburg at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Clarksburg will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something Quince Orchard surely won't give up without a fight. As for Seneca Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Gaithersburg at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Gaithersburg has struggled recently with eight losses in a row, while Seneca Valley will arrive with three straight victories.
