The Spearfish Spartans were the 64-60 winner over the Hill City Rangers when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Spearfish fell just short of Hill City by a score of 54-51.
Spearfish's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Seth Hamilton, who scored 19 points along with nine rebounds. Hamilton scored a full 37.3% of Spearfish's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylon Doren, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds.
Spearfish's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Hill City, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Spearfish will head out on the road to face off against Brandon Valley at 8:00 p.m. on January 12th. Hill City won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Philip at 7:30 p.m. on January 5th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Dakota (Philip is ranked 40th, while Hill City is ranked 62nd).
