The Delone Catholic Squires will challenge the Fairfield Knights at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Delone Catholic is headed into Wednesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Monday. They fell 15-10 to Bermudian Springs. One positive for the Squires, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.
Avery Heberling made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Emma Rollman, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Heberling wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Delone Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Fairfield, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They blew past York Catholic 13-3 on Monday. Considering the Knights' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Maddy Payne made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.5 strikeouts per game. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with seven RBI, two runs, and two doubles. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, Sydney Kreitz was a standout: she scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Sophia Klinedinst was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
Delone Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Fairfield, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.
Delone Catholic took their victory against Fairfield in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 8-1. Will Delone Catholic repeat their success, or does Fairfield has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
