Basketball Recap: Restoration Academy Comes Up Short

Restoration Academy lost against Ezekiel Academy back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Restoration Academy took a 42-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ezekiel Academy Knights. While losing is never fun, Restoration Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 289th, while Ezekiel Academy is ranked 79th).

Despite the loss, Restoration Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Leah Thomas posted 17 points. Thomas' evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarah Williams-Scott, who scored eight points.

Ezekiel Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gianna Johnson, who went 6 for 8 en route to 12 points and six boards. What's more, Johnson also racked up two blocks, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Addi Newell, who had 11 points and six rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Restoration Academy and nudges their season record down to 5-11. As for Ezekiel Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-2.

Restoration Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 67-54 defeat against Edgewood Academy on the 5th. Ezekiel Academy has also already played their next match, a 47-36 win against Tuscaloosa Home Educators on the 7th.
