Cuthbertson got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ava Beals out in front who went 8 of 18 en route to 27 points along with five assists and five boards. Those 27 points gave Beals a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Amayah Rogers, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds.
Cuthbertson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Porter Ridge didn't have too much trouble with Monroe on Wednesday as they won 82-68.
Cuthbertson better focus on containing Kali Williams and Ashanti Taylor as the pair were huge in Porter Ridge's win. Williams went 13 of 16 on her way to 29 points in addition to eight assists and eight boards, while Taylor posted 37 points along with eight boards and four steals. That makes it 16 consecutive games in which Taylor has scored at least a third of Porter Ridge's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Malcolm, who put up 11 points and six steals.
Porter Ridge is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for Cuthbertson, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Cuthbertson has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 28.4 boards per game. However, it's not like Porter Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.3 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
