The Lake Placid Dragons will venture away from home to challenge the Victory Christian Academy Storm at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lake Placid's defense has only allowed 27 points per game this season, so Victory Christian Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them.
Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Lake Placid turned things around against Frostproof on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Bulldogs as they made off with a 39-19 victory. The Dragons' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Lake Placid's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Trinity Smalls, who posted 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals, and Haylee Stewart, who put up 21 points along with five rebounds and three steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Stewart has scored at least a third of Lake Placid's points.
Lake Placid was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Victory Christian Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They received a blow as they fell 46-28 to Calvary Christian. While losing is never fun, the Storm can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 150th, while the Warriors are ranked 43rd).
Lake Placid will have to keep a close watch on Bianca Barroso and Elsie Hess, a pair of players who had a big impact on Victory Christian Academy's prior game. Barroso posted seven points along with 12 boards and four steals, while Hess had five points. Barroso has been hot recently, having posted four or more steals the last four times she's played.
Victory Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Lake Placid, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-5.
Lake Placid and Victory Christian Academy were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in January, but Lake Placid came up empty-handed after a 35-34 defeat. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Barroso, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards.
