Caldwell County is 9-1 against Webster County since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Tigers will welcome the Trojans at 5:30 p.m. Caldwell County is coming into the contest hot, having won their last seven games.
Caldwell County will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating Union County, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Tigers walked away with a 9-6 win over the Braves on Thursday.
The team relied heavily on David Ginn, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Derek Wilson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Caldwell County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Webster County came up short against McLean County on Thursday and fell 6-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Trojans in their meetings with the Cougars: they've now lost four in a row.
Pryce Pearcy was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
In other batting news, Trace Hardison made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base. That home run was his first of the season.
Caldwell County's victory was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games. As for Webster County, their loss dropped their record down to 10-8.
