The Surprise Valley Hornets were the 56-49 winner over the Big Valley Cardinals when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Surprise Valley took a 44-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of Big Valley on Saturday.
Surprise Valley's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Casey Grove, who scored 14 points. Grove scored a full 40% of Surprise Valley's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Iina Nabahe-Henry, who scored 12 points.
Big Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kade Lemke, who scored 14 points along with 5 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Lemke has scored at least 25% of Big Valley's points. Josue Barba was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Surprise Valley's loss dropped their record down to 2-2-1. As for Big Valley, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1-1.
Surprise Valley will head out on the road to face off against Big Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Big Valley's defense has only allowed 30 points per game this season, so Surprise Valley's offense will have their work cut out for Surprise Valley. Big Valley is on the road again on Saturday and play against Greenville at 1:30 p.m. on December 2nd.
