Baseball Recap: Edna Comes Up Short

Edna had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 6-16 to make it four. They lost 18-11 to the Yoakum Bulldogs. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Cowboys have suffered against the Bulldogs since March 25, 2022.

Riley Palacios made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 4-for-5 with five RBI, one run, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Edna's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is 2-1 (and 4-15 when he doesn't). Peyton McCarrel also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

As for Yoakum, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9-1 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Yoakum's side, Garrett Green made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Green was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with five runs and one stolen base. Those five runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Trae Cuellar, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Matt Blanchard, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Edna will venture away from home to square off against Rice Consolidated at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cowboys are facing the Raiders at the right time seeing as the Raiders are stuck on a 12-game losing streak. As for Yoakum, they will head out to face off against Columbus at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
