Bath County came into their game on Wednesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Pendleton County, falling 11-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Chargers were not able to get on the board.
Bath County saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was C Lowry, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, Highland beat Bath County 13-8 last Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Chargers: they've now won three in a row.
Zach Armstrong made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Armstrong was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Highland is 7-2 when Armstrong posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise.
In other batting news, Patton Hull was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Highland: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-5 otherwise. Evan Kimble was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run.
Highland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in six consecutive matchups.
Bath County's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Highland, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bath County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Highland struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
