Henry-Senachwine hasn't had much luck against Marquette recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Mallards will be playing in front of their home fans against the Crusaders at 4:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Henry-Senachwine comes in on three and Marquette on 11.
If Henry-Senachwine beats Marquette with six runs on Monday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Mallards came out on top against Midland by a score of 6-1 on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Marquette got the win against Dwight last Thursday by a conclusive 14-8. Considering the Crusaders have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Taylor Cuchra was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kelsey Cuchra, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Makayla Backos was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Marquette was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .486. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in 11 consecutive contests.
Marquette's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-1. As for Henry-Senachwine, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
Henry-Senachwine suffered a grim 11-5 defeat to Marquette in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Mallards avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
