Copper Basin and McMinn Central are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2016, but likely not for long. The Cougars will welcome the Chargers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It was a proper cat-fight when Copper Basin challenged Polk County on Monday. The Cougars walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Wildcats. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Caitlin Pack spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kinsley Ross was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That stolen base was her first of the season. Claire Ledford was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but McMinn Central ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They came out on top against Tellico Plains by a score of 9-6. The victory was familiar territory for the Chargers, who have now won four contests in a row.
McMinn Central also let their pitcher toss all eight innings and she was also dialed-in: Lauren Peterson gave up six earned runs on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Riley Thompson, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Brooke Martin, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.
McMinn Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Copper Basin now has a winning record of 5-4. As for McMinn Central, their win bumped their record up to 10-6.
