2A-1 Region IV District 16 recap Oct. 23, 2012
San Diego extended the longest winning streak in 2A-1 Region IV District 16 this week by beating Odem, 48-44. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Vaqueros.
San Diego moved up to 402 from 462 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Bo Ochoa's team climbed the ranks as a result of beating the Owls 48-44.
Michael Lichtenberger put up the best numbers through the air as the Vaqueros defeated Odem. He finished with a total of two completions for 101 yards and one touchdown. Lichtenberger's favorite target this week was Adrian Morin, who caught one pass for 57 yards.
Zach Morales was the best wideout in the league this week as Andres Martinez's team fell to San Diego. Morales tallied three receptions for 61 yards. Ryland Hoelscher helped Odem's passing attack out by catching one ball for 16 yards.
Jake Ray provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Owls lost to the Vaqueros. He completed three passes for 63 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 224 yards.
San Diego's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Vaqueros feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Lichtenberger has thrown for 557 yards and six touchdowns this season, while Lucas Lopez has eight catches for 215 yards. Luis Lopez leads the league in rushing with 1707 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Aransas Pass takes on Falfurrias. At the moment, the Panthers are in third, while the Bulls are in second.
Mathis took down Bishop 32-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.
