The third road match was the charm for Westwood Christian, as they earned their first road win of the season. They skirted past First Christian 51-49. The victory was just what Westwood Christian needed coming off of a 58-22 loss in their prior contest.
Westwood Christian relied on the efforts of Brett Bozeman, who scored 17 points along with 4 steals, and Tripp Kirkland, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 10 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Kirkland has scored at least 25% of Westwood Christian's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Thomas, who scored 7 points along with 11 rebounds and 5 steals.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought contest, but Corinth Christian Academy had to settle for a 47-44 loss against Northside Christian Academy on Friday.
Despite the defeat, Corinth Christian Academy had strong showings from Alden Hughes, who scored 14 points along with 3 steals, and Justin Fowler, who scored 13 points. The contest was Hughes' sixth in a row with at least ten points. Haigen Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 4 points along with 5 assists.
The losses dropped Westwood Christian to 2-3 and First Christian to 0-5.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Westwood Christian have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Corinth Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 21.8 per game.
