Freeman has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Newport Grizzlies at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Last Tuesday, Freeman lost to Deer Park at home by a decisive 56-39 margin. Freeman has not had much luck with Deer Park recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite their loss, Freeman saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Taylee Phelps, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. That was a full 38.5% of Freeman's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Avery Boswell was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Newport, who are still winless after their 15th game. They had to suffer through a rough 60-28 loss at the hands of Priest River. While losing is never fun, Newport can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 311th in Washington, while Priest River is ranked 95th in Idaho).
Freeman now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Newport, they dropped their record down to 0-15 with that defeat, which was their 14th straight at home.
Everything came up roses for Freeman against Newport when the teams last played on January 6th as the team secured a 74-24 victory. With Freeman ahead 39-13 at the half, the game was all but over already.
