Baldwin is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. They will welcome the Bolles Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Baldwin made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Baker County, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Indians fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 51-48 on Friday. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Indians, who until this matchup were averaging 13.6 points allowed.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Stephen Screws, who threw for 341 yards and four TDs. Nashawn Jacobs helped Screws out on the ground, rushing for 56 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also picking up 32 receiving yards and one score.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Jacobs, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bolles). They blew past Oakleaf 38-6 on Friday. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Bolles found their leader in sophomore Xander Edwards, who rushed for 184 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 7.1 yards per carry, and also picked up 43 receiving yards. Edwards' longest rush was for an incredible 76 yards. Naeem Burroughs was another key pass catcher, picking up 43 receiving yards and one score.
One reason for the win was Bolles' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for ten sacks. Asher Ghioto led the group effort, picking up four of those sacks all by himself. Chance Faucheaux also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with seven. Bolles got some further help from Christian Hayes: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made seven total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Bolles' victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Baldwin, their defeat was their first of the season and also makes their record 4-1.
