It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Pisgah had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They blew past the Mize Bulldogs 18-2. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 18 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Alyssa McMurtrey made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one triple.
In other batting news, Maddi Byrd was incredible, firing off two home runs and six RBI while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted two runs, the most she's had since back in March. Alex Holeman was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, two RBI, and one double.
Pisgah always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mize only posted an OBP of .208.
The victory (which was Pisgah's fifth in a row) raised their record to 23-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for Mize, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 20-12.
Pisgah will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bulldogs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
